Summer Start and its Benefits
Summer Start is a special opportunity for first-year students to jump-start their academic experience by earning six hours of course credit through a track program.
Virginia Tech is one of a select number of universities in the nation to offer a Summer Start program. More than 1,500 students have benefited from Summer Start since it launched in 2012.
We know being an official Hokie and getting to campus cannot come soon enough. Basically, you have the whole campus to yourself, along with 300 of your closest friends when you arrive on campus in July for early move-in! You will live with each other in one of two residence halls within walking distance of volleyball and basketball courts, gym facilities, and plenty of green spaces to relax and hang with friends.

Settling in
Both you and your parents will participate in an online orientation. By doing so, a separate orientation session is not required.
Your enthusiasm for Summer Start is equally matched with Virginia Tech's supportive faculty. These individuals love the unique teaching experience that Summer Start provides with small classroom environments and getting to know students on a first-name basis.
Getting social
And then there is the social component. Your peer mentors will be sure to keep you moving with regular social events and weekend trips hiking, tubing, and just general fun outside.
As we know, it is very important to get a better sense of Summer Start from those who have attended before. So, here is what students are saying.
